Nathalie Stirnimann, b. 1990 in Fribourg (CH) & Stefan Stojanovic, *1993 in Vranje (RS), live and work in Zurich (CH)
Nathalie Stirnimann and Stefan Stojanovic's concepts are manifested and materialzed in situations, performances, words and objects. Central themes in their practice are the social and structural issues of the art system seen from the viewpoint of aspiring artists. They are interested in exploring the boundaries between art, activism and society using transdisciplinary approaches and interdependent relations. By involving the public, spectators become actors, permitting new types of dialogue.
Their aim is to probe and call into question the reality of the art field and, using collective approaches, to thematize fairer and more sustainable working conditions.
Stirnimann & Stojanovic each earned a BA in the visual arts—Nathalie Stirnimann from the Hochschule der Künste, Zurich, and Stefan Stojanovic from the Academy of Visual Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. They jointly earned an MA in visual arts at the Hochschule der Künste in Zurich.
Stirnimann-Stojanovic's works were shown, among other venues, at MCaM, Shanghai (CN), Performance Art Biennale, Chandigarh (IN), La Tertulia, Cali (CO), Manifesta, Zurich, the Kunsthalle Fri Art, Fribourg, Performance Festival Turku (FI), U10, Belgrade (RS), Acción!MAD, Reina Sofia, Madrid (ES), Circuits and Currents, Athens (GR).
In addition to that they are members of the artist groups RRRRRRR (CH-CN-TW) and Intrdpndncy (CH). They participate on platforms for performance art like Perform Perform and Bone Performance Art Festival.
Nathalie Stirnimann & Stefan Stojanovic were invited by Zhao Chuan to Acts of Transmission as participants of Live Art Workshops at Partout and are supported by Pro Helvetia Shanghai.
