"Art means trying things out, questioning reality. Poetic moments create a solidarity betweeen real objects, spaces and people. They awaken and evoke, and now they can even catapult."
(Gertrude Moser-Wagner)
The sculptress and project artist Gertrude Moser-Wagner sees her work above all as something out of the abundance of everything. In her salt-lick project (Vienna 1985, text by Reinhard Priessnitz) she worked on the basis of a conceptual impulse applied exploratorily and to produce sensorial-esthetic and communicative results, which she then claimed as her sculpture. Her work is interdisciplinary and offers points of entry: in public spaces, as well as through exhibitions in art spaces. Her principal media are sculpture, video, text, radio, installation and intervention.
Gertrude Moser-Wagner studied sculpture at the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. She held a teaching position for many years at both these art universities and at Webster University, Vienna. She also works as curator for art projects.
