GISELA HOCHULI
Performance: Sat. 3.10.2020, from 7.30pm, Arsenic Lausanne
Gisela Hochuli, b. 1969 in Zofingen (CH), lives and works in Bern (CH)
Gisela Hochuli likes to work with what is close at hand, with the obvious. This might include her body, her voice, space, the public, and site-specific materials and contexts. In Schöftland, for example, she worked with her biography, in China with the color red, in Linz with reeds, in Helsinki with a piece of frozen snow, and in 2016 with the centennial of Dada. Being present, being attentive to things, observing the particular situation and thinking what would be fitting to do next are central aspects of her actions and attitude during the performance.
Gisela Hochuli studied economics and sociology at the University of Bern and art at the Hochschule der Künste, Institute of Visual Arts, Zurich. Since 2002 she has shown her work at national and international festivals for performance art in Asia, South and North America, North Africa and Europe. She works with other (inter)national artists, is a charter member of the Swiss performance art network PANCH and was awarded the Swiss Performance Art Award in 2014.
